On Tuesday, 11 December 2024, the Jockey Club 'Spark & Spot' Project participated in the Learning and Teaching Expo 2024!
The Jockey Club 'Spark & Spot' Project was thrilled to be invited by The Jockey Club Charities Trust Fund to participate in the Jockey Club Education Hub as one of the featured projects in Early Childhood Education.
The featured panel, titled "A Fairer Start For All: A Child-centric Approach to Learning (Inclusive Education)," brought together leading experts in childhood education. The panel discussed the significance of adopting a child-centric approach, emphasizing the importance of understanding learning from a child's perspective. The panel discussion was chaired by Ms. Anna Hui, Associate Professor of Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences, City University of Hong Kong, with panellists, Mr. Johnny Lam, representing the Jockey Club ‘Spark & Spot’ Project as the Environmental Design Consultant, and Dr Chun Ban, Ian Lam, Associate Professor, Department of Early Childhood Education, The Education University of Hong Kong.
Following the insightful discussions, attendees enjoyed a 45-minute session dedicated to learning-through-play demonstrations, showcasing practical applications of the concepts discussed. For the Jockey Club ‘Spark & Spot’ Project, there were two demonstrations – one in which attendees were invited to browse through and discuss the Project’s multi-sensory resource catalogue, which focuses on environmental design enhancement for kindergarten schools. In the other demonstration, attendees were encouraged to watch an experiential learning/choice based video situated on the topic of working within a team in a kindergarten school environment. The video showcases the different perspectives and observations of different kindergarten school staff and teachers, and the attendees were invited to make a choice to reach a consensus of how to collectively help the team make the most appropriate decisions with regards to a child’s learning and development.
Overall, the event was successful and underscored the importance of inclusive education, learner diversity and collaborate learning, inspiring participants to consider and adopt innovative approaches in early childhood education!
